‘Give Me Liberty’
Memorial Day is May 30th—the day on which we pause to remember with gratitude all those who have bravely given their lives in the service of our country. May 30th was chosen as the date of Decoration Day, as it was originally called, because it wasn’t the anniversary of any particular battle. I can’t help but wonder if the beautiful spring flowers in bloom had any influence on the timing of the holiday—what more appropriate way to honor our fallen heroes than with vibrant, living floral displays in patriotic colors?
Petunia ‘Dreams Patriotic Mix’
This is the time to get out the old school red, white & blue to proudly deck porches and patios for the holiday. Clients along the parade route—including restaurants, office buildings, and shops—will be expecting planters and window boxes filled with Americana, so be sure to have the appropriate material on hand.

‘Give Me Liberty’, a mix of ‘Tukana Scarlet Red’ verbena, ‘Supertunia White’, and ‘Superbena Royale Chambray’, comes in the 12-inch planter and 12-inch hanging basket.
‘Uncle Sam’ in the 12-inch hanging basket is our petunia combo in red, white & blue. We also have ‘Stars and Bars’ in the 10-inch hanging basket, with the funky ‘Night Sky’ petunia plus some red and white.
‘Ruby Sapphire’ is a red and blue calibrachoa combo in the 10-inch hanging basket.
‘EnduraScape Blue’ makes a great blue choice
For those large planters along the parade route, try a spike of ‘Archangel White’ or ‘Angelface Blue’ angelonia surrounded by red and white begonias and ‘EnduraScape Blue’ verbena; tuck in some ‘Silver Falls’ dichondra or ‘Bright Ideas Rusty Red’ ipomoea to spill out over the edges.
Geraniums go anywhere
Window boxes look striking filled with all red Multibloom geraniums and a strategic American flag as the lone thriller.
