An Exclusive Tradition

We’re pleased once again to offer our beautiful Hearthside planter for the holiday season. This Diefenbacher exclusive has become a tradition for many customers, we know—but it’s a tradition for us, too. Creating these distinctive arrangements puts us in the holiday spirit and that’s a nice perk of the job this time of year. 

Ruby red bracts

To round out retail holiday programs we have the stunning ‘Cortez™ Burgundy’, with dark, ruby red bracts that remind us of holiday ribbon. Notice the full, rounded habit and smooth, velvety texture—great for adding a bit of drama to the holidays. It has striking dark green foliage, too.

‘Cortez™ Burgundy’ has become a standard novelty variety; with its beautiful burgundy color it nearly always ranks at the top of consumer preference surveys. We grow this poinsettia because it’s a customer favorite, even though it’s a bit of a challenge for us; since it’s sensitive to high temperatures we have to monitor the plants very carefully. There’s also a tendency for it to sport red, although great improvement has been made in this area over the last couple of years. 

‘Cortez™ Burgundy’

Actually, to be honest, we love a challenge and the plants have colored up deep, dark, and dashing. They’re very uniform, so they work well in our Hearthside planter and other combinations. To keep these points looking prime make sure they receive maximum light and avoid letting them dry out.

This variety is available in 4.5 and 6.5-inch round pots and 14-inch or 24-inch Hearthside planters. 

‘Sonora White Glitter’

Novelty—or art-style poinsettias, as we prefer to call them—continue to pique the curiosity of consumers. They’re interesting all on their own, and we usually see strong sales on them right about now: post Thanksgiving. Here are a couple of speckled varieties that look like they got caught in a snowstorm:

‘Jingle Bell Rock’

‘Jingle Bell Rock’ has classic red bracts with a distinctive blaze of white down the middle and some flecks of white in the red.

‘Sonora White Glitter’ provides a similar flecked effect with white spots and splashes on classic red. This variety has one unique characteristic: the green leaves intermingle with the showy bracts for a holiday trifecta of red, white, and green.

Both of these eye-catching points are available in 6.5-inch round pots and the 14-inch or 24-inch Hearthside planter.
