Portulaca ‘Rio Grande™ Magenta’
‘Rio Grande™ Magenta‘ stays vibrant in sun and heat
Wow—take a look at these vibrant magenta flowers. They’re just the ticket when a client wants color in a trouble spot with unrelenting sun and hot temperatures. Plants in the Rio Grande™ series bloom continuously from spring right through to the first frost of autumn, even during the highest heat of the summer. Though they last only a day the flowers keep on coming, especially with a little deadheading.
‘Rio Grande™ Magenta’ is low growing; it reaches only 2–5 inches tall but has a nice trailing habit, spreading about 12–14 inches. It’s also drought tolerant, although it performs best with regular water. Plant this variety in full sun; deep shade will do it in, as will heavy, wet soil—so be sure there is ample drainage.
Quick, easy summer color
For quick, easy summer color we use ‘Rio Grande™ Magenta’ in sunny beds and borders or let it trail out of hanging baskets. It mixes well with other bright, sun loving plants and is also a natural choice for rock gardens.
This selection is available in the 4.5-inch pot.
