Summer Peppers Are Shipping

Our ornamental peppers have colored up nicely and are shipping now. For a quick splash of bright orange, red, or purple, consider adding peppers to combinations and window boxes. They are also effective in the center of low autumn landscape designs, or dressing up the front of taller material. You will find that we have a unique assortment—every one is an eye-catcher:

‘Chilly Chili’ (4.5, 6, and 8-inch pot): Long, slender greenish-yellow fruit changes to orange, then dark red; these peppers are not hot. 

Syngenta is an important source of the genetics we produce for the market today. If you have purchased Delta pansies, Magellan zinnias or the Rocky Mountain geraniums, you have worked with Syngenta material. With this in mind, we’d like to introduce you to Bob Froelich from Syngenta Seeds, who will be speaking on Flowers that have Great Landscape Performance.

Bob has a broad range of experience in our industry. He has amassed over 17 years experience in the horticulture marketplace with a focus on ornamentals in the midwest and specifically the Ohio area. We’re looking forward to Bob’s presentation—we can all benefit from keeping up with the innovation that Syngenta brings to the table.

Take a look at these big bold blooms—the rich golden yellow and orange tones seem to radiate warmth. It makes for one eye-catching plant—that rusty red ring around the cone seals the deal. You might say that these flowers are like coffee shops—there are a lot of them. 

They keep on coming too, until well into fall for nonstop color all season long. ‘Cappuccino’ is an impressive performer all around: it’s compact and well-branched with a nice spread, plus the plants are uniform so you know what to expect when you incorporate them into a design. This tough sun-lover is easy to grow—it adapts to almost any type of soil and stands up to both heat and drought. Plants are sturdy and reach about 18–20 inches tall.

We like to plant rudbeckia en masse for the fall and this variety looks particularly striking that way. Of course, it makes a thrilling addition to large combination planters, as well as a cheery accent in patio pots. The vibrant flowers are long lasting and butterflies flock to them. ‘Cappuccino’ combines well with many other rudbeckia varieties.
