ACALYPHA 'TAHITI'

Long-time readers of Field Notes know that we like to experiment with new material. Sometimes, we wander into a genus that is not widely known but it offers promising potential as a decor plant. Acalypha 'Tahiti' from Hort Couture is one of those plants.

'Tahiti' is a very different looking low-growing shrub with bi-color leaves that curl and twist a bit. The leaves are beautifully mottled with cream-colored variegation specked throughout the leaves. It grows low, about 12 to 15 inches in height, and does well in full sun or partial shade.

This is one of those indoor/outdoor foliage plants as well. You can use it in the spring as an outdoor bedding plant, or indoors in the fall and winter as part of an interior planting.

You don't have to do a color change to add interest to a design - here you can use 'Tahiti' to use foliage shape and contrast to provide that support.
