Brachyscome ‘Radiant Magenta’

Swan River Daisy is the common name of a plant we’ve been growing for a few years now, Brachyscome, that tends to fly under the radar. It’s a lovely, delicate-looking plant that grows well in poor soil so we find it useful for adding color to rock gardens and other tough spots where it can be hard to get colorful flowering plants to grow. They are good companions to Bidens, because they are about the same size and habit, but they bloom in a completely different color scheme. We sell two of these charming plants: the brighter ‘Radiant Magenta’ and the lighter ‘Enduring Blue’.

‘Vigorous Orange’ SunPatiens—twice the height of ‘Compact Magenta’

If you get a chance, swing by and see our Porch Garden before the frost hits and knocks it back. It illustrates just how big you can expect plants from the Vigorous series of SunPatiens to become. Amy was kind enough to give us a sense of scale regarding the size of the ‘Vigorous Orange’. You can see how it contrasts with the ‘Compact Magenta’. Remember, this ground is flat and both varieties were planted at the same time, from the same size pot.

Vigorous SunPatiens give us twice the height of the Compact series but for most people the Compacts suit their needs—standard New Guinea and Impatiens gardens tend to sit low. As a result, the Vigorous SunPatiens is a special order item to fit a particular situation. We do like to use the series in big gardens and large spaces, so we are happy to grow it upon request. If you like that tiered cake style of garden and have a large area to fill, you should make a point of adding Vigorous SunPatiens to your design toolbox.

 
Set an eerie scene with Creeping Wire Vine

Just the trick for Halloween, this trailing Muehlenbeckia foliage adds a creepy vibe to holiday combos. Little green-bronze leaves shimmer against dramatic dark stems as they crawl out from underneath festive pumpkins and mums. Alone in a planter that’s shaped like a head it looks like a Medusa-style Chia Pet. To set an eerie scene put some test tubes and viles in an old metal box and let these weird, wiry stems wind their way around the lab.
