Tropical Punch

FN 1.2 Borneo Giant 5 Plants Nouveau
‘Borneo King’

When we need an exotic centerpiece we bring in one of our large tropicals to save the day. Their enormous, striking leaves and commanding presence turn an ordinary landscape into a virtual vacationland. If only we could extend their season of interest so we could enjoy some of that warm, relaxed vibe during the cooler months of the year.

Nicotiana ‘Starmaker Deep Lime’

FN 1.1 nicotiana starmaker mix1 ymker Greenhouse copy
Complementary ‘Deep Lime’ lets companion plants shine

‘Starmaker Deep Lime’ is an interesting color in the garden—it’s a great complementary plant. Rather than stealing the show it enhances a design, especially when used with shades of purple/violet to red/violet on the color wheel. For example, ‘Deep Lime’ would pair nicely with another Nicotiana we grow, ‘Perfume Deep Purple’.

Celosia ‘Dracula’

FN 1.3 CEL Dracula 0002
Here it is: elusive deep red

You can count on this exotic new Celosia to turn some heads. With one huge blood red bloom ‘Dracula’ is unique to say the least. Deep red is a hard color to find consistently in annuals and here it is!

‘Dracula’ is in a unique spot. It’s not as big as other comb-type Celosia varieties, and the height is variable, depending on light: it’s shorter in full sun and taller in part sun.

Salvia ‘Mysty’

FN 1.7 Field Day MG 2360
Salvia finally found its way to the front of the garden!

If you were here for Field Day back in August you saw this vibrant Salvia in one of our display beds—it’s a true horticulture blue. ‘Mysty’ is a shorter version of ‘Mystic Spires’ and at the time we were on the fence about growing a short Salvia, but this one turned out to be a very good bloomer and we like the full, dense look of the plant.

Trending Now: Pansies in Hanging Baskets

FN 1.4 PAN Wonderfall Lavender Picotee Shades 0002
Hanging Pansies to brighten any spot

Hanging baskets of Pansies have gone from blah to rah in a few short seasons. Sales of the product have increased fivefold as shown by our sales chart. We credit this surge to the popularity of two new Pansy series, the WonderFall from Syngenta and the Freefall from Floranova. Both have ignited a sales engine and created a viable new category for early spring.
